About

Chemist, writer, telling science stories to support innovators

My name is Heidi Doak. I’m a PhD-qualified R&D chemist, specialising in strategic communications for the scientific and manufacturing industries.

For over two decades, I’ve worked as a product development scientist and scientific writer. I’ve taken new products from idea to prototype, from lab tests to factory runs to field trials. Now I help innovators and researchers access government grants.

With degrees in chemistry and communications, I enjoy combining my two professional interests to support the development and promotion of breakthrough technologies that bring economic, social and environmental benefits to Australia and the world.

I’ve been very fortunate to have so many opportunities as a result of my career in science. So to give back and support the next generation of chemists I’m a mentor in the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI)’s mentoring program.

And if I’m not writing, you’ll most likely find me reading a book, spending time with my family or walking my dog – a rescue greyhound who’s not shy about reminding me when it’s time to get up from my desk!
